A holistic approach to delivering high-quality programs with First Nations communities around Australia.

What We Do

SMS outREACH was developed through our passion for sport and the belief in the values it instils in individuals; from teamwork, to dedication, commitment, self-awareness and confidence, and importantly, the skills to help you deal with adversity.

Our programs use sport as a vehicle to create leaders, instill confidence and develop self-awareness - or as we call it ‘Sports Therapy’.

For remote and regional communities around Australia, especially those First Nations communities, programs prioritise the development of local staff to enable the ongoing delivery of activities long after SportsMindset has left, while encouraging youth to participate in a high energy, competitive and supportive environment

outREACH programs are delivered under a culturally safe, community informed and codesigned framework, with the ability to adapt and pivot at any stage during the program to ensure everyone gets the most out of the program. outREACH identifies three key target groups as being priority participants:

  1. Women and young girls - including new mums

  2. Youth (who may or may not be disengaged from community programs and schooling)

  3. Local staff, coaches and volunteers - those who plan and conduct activities and/or promote physical activity in their community

“Provision for culturally-appropriate and Indigenous-led physical activity initiatives for all Indigenous people are important ways of increasing physical activity levels. Increased efforts to implement and evaluate such programs are warranted, focussing on sustainability and ownership of programs by local Indigenous people.”

Gray C, Macniven R, Thomson N (2013) Review of physical activity among Indigenous people
